Chapter 5: The Alchemist's Suffering
- Introducing: Scar, Shou Tucker (The Life-Sewing Alchemist), Nina Tucker, Alexander
- Dead: Shou Tucker, Nina Tucker, Alexander
Scene 1 (pg 1 - 4): Havoc explains to the rest of the troops how Mustang's flame alchemy works. His gloves are made of ignition cloth, so with a snap of his fingers, a spark is made. With alchemy, Mustang changes the oxygen levels to create bombs and explosions.
Scene 2 (pg 5 - 8): Ed asks a favor from Mustang to learn more about transmuting live things. The Colonel ends up introducing them to Shou Tucker, the Life-Sewing alchemist.
Scene 3 (pg 8 - 13): The boys tell Tucker all about how they ended up the way they are and why they are looking to learn more. He shows them around his lab and leads them to his materials. As they start studying, Mustang leaves, stating he'll send someone to pick them up later.
Scene 4 (pg 14 - 15): The boys don't get much done due to the utter cuteness of Nina and Alexander.
Scene 5 (pg 16 - 18): Havoc picks the boys up, who are allowed to come again tomorrow since they didn't get to look through everything they wanted to. As they are about to leave, Havoc relays a message to Tucker about Evaluation Day coming up soon.
Scene 6 (pg 19 - 21): Nina talks about the past and how she feels a little lonely since her father has been working a lot in his lab. Ed and Al decide to take a break and play with her.
Scene 7 (pg 22 - 34): The next day, the Elric Brothers find that Shou Tucker has transmuted Nina and Alexander together to create a talking chimera. Enraged and upset by Tucker's twisted ways, Edward beats the man up until Al restrains him from killing him.
Scene 8 (pg 34 - 37): Mustang and Hawkeye come to the Tucker Residence. Upon leaving, Mustang talks about how State alchemists are human weapons of the military and that what they do with their privileges is up to them. He then asks Ed how long he's going to sulk when he could be moving forward to get back their bodies.
Scene 8 (pg 38 - 46): Scar shows up; kills Tucker and Nina.
Chapter 6: The Right Hand of Destruction
- Introducing: Lieutenant Colonel Maes Hughes, Major Alex Louis Armstrong (The Strong Arm Alchemist), Envy, Trisha Elric
- Death mention: Brigadier General Basque Grand (The Iron Blood Alchemist)
Scene 1 (pg 1 - 6): Ed's nightmare.
Scene 2 (pg 6 - 9): Ed and Al go to Eastern HQ. Just as he's about to leave, Hawkeye shows up. Ed asks what will happen to Shou Tucker. Turns out both Nina and Shou were murdered. Although Ed asks to come along with her to the scene of the crime, Hawkeye says that "It's better if you didn't see."
Scene 3 (pg 9 - 11): Hughes and Major Armstrong investigate the scene. They confirm that the murderer must be Scar.
Scene 4 (pg 12 - 20): In Liore, the homunculus cause a riot among the people, with Envy disguising himself as the dead priest. When a witness finds them, Gluttony eats him up.
Scene 5 (pg 21 - 22): Hughes and Major Armstrong fill Mustang in about Scar and his State alchemist murders. When he realizes that Ed and Al are not safe, he orders a search for them.
Scene 6 (pg 23 - 30): While the Elric brothers sulk and think about their plans, they suddenly get attacked by Scar.
Scene 7 (pg 31 - 45): They run away into a dead end, left to fight him off. Both brothers are injured in the fight; Ed loses his automail arm.
Chapter 7: After the Rain
Scene 1 (pg 1 - 6): Scar is about to kill Ed. Ed pleads for him to not kill Al. Mustang and his troops show up and surround Scar.
Scene 2 (pg 6 - 11): Mustang asks why Scar is killing off state alchemists. After getting an answer, Mustang tries to take him down, only for Hawkeye to knock some sense into him that he can't fight when it's raining.
Scene 3 (pg 12 - 25): Major Armstrong shows up to fight off Scar. Meanwhile, Edward figures out that Scar uses some type of alchemy, but stops at the deconstruction stage. After cornering Scar, Armstrong backs up in order for Hawkeye to get a shot at him. By grazing him with a bullet, his glasses knocked off, they find out that Scar is an Ishvalan.
Scene 4 (pg 25 - 31): Scar, surrounded, decides to make his getaway by blowing up the ground and escaping through the sewers. Hughes shows up and gives orders to try and find Scar in the city. Al then beats some sense into Ed to keep on living no matter what.
Scene 5 (pg 32 - 36): Background on the Ishvalan War and why Scar would want vengeance.
Scene 6 (pg 37 - 39): Boys decide to head back to Resembool to get fixed.
Chapter 8: A Hopeful Road
- Introducing: Dr. Tim Marcoh (The Crystal Alchemist)
Scene 1 (pg 1 - 3): People turn down on escorting Edward and Al back home, leaving Ed to wonder how he ended up stuck with Major Armstrong.
Scene 2 (pg 4 - 7): Major Armstrong bawls as he expresses how moved he is by the love Ed has for his mother and brother. The military guys tell Ed needs an escort in case Scar comes after him while he is still in disrepair. All but Major Armstrong refuse to take them.
Scene 3 (pg 7 - 11): Getting on the train; Hughes sending them off. Ed tells Major Armstrong about his hometown.
Scene 4 (pg 12 - 18): Major Armstrong spots Dr. Marcoh at the train station; he runs away. After filling Ed in on who he is, they ask around town for him. He apparently had changed his name, taking care of the people's medical needs. When they find him, Dr. Marcoh makes it clear that he doesn't want to be taken back to the military.
Scene 5 (pg 19 - 26): Talking to Dr. Marcoh about the Philosopher's Stone - He proves that it is possible, but refuses to tell Ed how to make one, calling it the devil's work. Ed tells him that he has seen hell after all he has been through.
Scene 6 (pg 27 - 30): Waiting for the train. At the last minute, Dr. Marcoh shows up to give Ed a note, stating where his research materials could be found: Central Library, 1st Branch.
Scene 7 (pg 31 - 44): Dr. Marcoh returns home; he is attacked by Lust until he cooperates. She then leaves to burn down the library where his research is before Ed can get to it.
