Chapter 70: The First Homunculus
- Introducing: Heinkel, Zampano, Darius, Jelso, Pride
- The Return of: 1st Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye
- Identity Revealed: Selim Bradley is Pride, the first homunculus made by Father.
Scene 1 (pg 1 - 4): Flashback to Northern HQ. Winry waits for someone to pick her up, when Kimbley walks in to welcome her. In the car, Kimbley tells Winry that during the war, his squad were the ones who found her parents' bodies, believing that they died honorably. He goes on to say that he's honored to meet her.
Scene 2 (pg 5 - 8): As Winry him with new automail, Ed complains. After Kimbley lets them know that the brothers will be released from prison soon, Ed warns Winry not to get friendly with Kimbley. Just when he is about to explain why, he remembers that he only knows what Lt. Hawkeye saw AND that Hawkeye asked him if he loves Winry, causing Ed to act all weird and spew elements from the periodic table to get his mind off the topic and Winry to ask herself, "Why do I love this weirdo?" while he's busy. She then connects the nerves on his arm.
Scene 3 (pg 9 - 13): Ed is amazed by how light his new automail is. It's weaker than his last one, but Winry enforced the vital joints and areas. Captain Buccaneer then walks in after changing automail, noticing that Ed's now equipped for the weather. As he shows off the M-90 "Mad Bear Grade" arm, Winry fawns over its features and Northern engineering. Meeting Ed's mechanic, Buccaneer attacks him, while one of the doctors offers to show her around his workshop. Winry excited accepts. Ed reminds her not to get carried away.
Scene 4 (pg 13 - 16): As he Watches Winry observe and take notes, Kimbley tells him that they have something they need to talk about. Al is still in the cell, waiting for his chance to get out.
Scene 5 (pg 16 - 20): Apparently, the recon team have been missing for a week by now. Taking his team with him down into the tunnel, Captain Buccaneer asks Major General Armstrong to forget about them and to seal the back door if they do not return in 24 hours. She assures him that she will. To the other military officials, she makes it clear that if anyone finds out about Lt. General Raven, she will assume responsibility and want them to forget about her as well. Down below, Buccaneer's men move out.
Scene 6 (pg 21 - 24): Back in Central, the florist delivers Mustang the message that the major general would like her forces of the North to team up with his forces from the East. Elated by Armstrong choosing him as a partner, the florist deflates him mentioning that the general only wants his army. When Mustang asks what Armstrong would've done if he sold her out to King Bradley, the florist replies that Armstrong knew that Mustang would never do such a thing; he's not that type of man. After paying, Mustang thinks about Hughes, thinking that in the end, only fellow soldiers will really understand and support you. He then wonders what to do with all the flowers he just bought.
Scene 7 (pg 24 - 29): Further in the tunnel, the troop finds one of the horses dead, but a couple of their comrades from the recon team alive. Lt. Henshel offers them water, asking them what happened to the rest of the team, who were killed. They warn the rest of them that they have to get out of the tunnel quickly, saying that the darkness is coming. Pride's shadow appears again, heading toward them.
Scene 8 (pg 30 - 35): Lt. Hawkeye arrives that the Fuhrer's home looking for him as he requested that she deliver him some important documents. According to his wife, however, he's not in the house. Hawkeye is disturbed by the presence she feels behind her and turns around, seeing that it is just Selim. Hawkeye apologizes for waking him up. As Selim is whisked back to bed, Mrs. Bradley tells Hawkeye that Selim apparently is the son of "a distant relative of [her] husband". Lt. Hawkeye leaves quickly, letting Mrs. Bradley know that she is on her way out.
Scene 9 (pg 35 - 39): While walking away, the lieutenant puts two and two together, when Selim shows up again behind her. She apparently sensed a hint of bloodlust from his presence, like when Gluttony snuck up on her before. Selim confirms her suspicions, introducing himself as Pride.
Scene 10 (pg 40 - 42): In Briggs, Kimbley makes Ed help him with his mission to find Scar, Dr. Marcoh, and to "take Briggs, and carve a bloody crest into it."
Chapter 71: The Grip of the Red Lotus
- Identities Revealed: Zanpano and Jelso are chimera (the former is boar-like, the latter toad-like).
Scene 1 (pg 1 - 4): Pride commends Lt. Hawkeye for her intelligents and bravery. telling her that if she speaks of his identity to anyone, her comrades will suffer. He warns her that he will be watching her from the shadows.
Scene 5 (pg 5 - 14): Edward gets Kimbley to explain what he means. Ed refuses at first, but remembers that Winry is a hostage. Kimbley then explains why he is helping the homunculus - he wants to see who wins; what the new world will be like. He then places down one of the Philosopher's stones he has as a bargain to accept his orders. Ed asks him to let him talk to Al and Winry first.
Scene 6 (pg 15 - 21): Ed fills them in on the situation. Winry is mad at herself for not realizing she is a hostage. Al just tells Ed to do what he wants. Ed decides to follow orders, starting with finding Scar, as vengence for murdering the Rockbells. He also gets Al to come with them. Al explains to Winry that they are just tricking Kimblee, not truly wanting the stone to get their bodies back.
Scene 7 (pg 21 - 24): Kimblee shows Major General Armstrong that he has official orders from the Fuhrer to let the Elrics go and leaves with them. She sends Major Miles after him, as well as to deliver a message to the Elrics to find Mei and bring her back in secret, if possible.
Scene 8 (pg 24 - 28): They head east to a town called Baschool, where Scar has been sighted. Winry decides to come along much to Ed, Al and Kimbley's dismay, using the excuse that she wants to make sure that Ed's automail will be working properly. Back at Briggs, the men cry over Winry's absence - their only girl - whining that the boss is too scary.
Scene 9 (pg 28 - 32): They arrive at their destination. Ed and Al try and lose Kimbley's subordinates (Darius and Heinkel) and realize how big the city is.
Scene 10 (pg 33 - 36): Just when they thought that finding them, Mei tackles Al, estactic at the thought that he has been looking for her. While Ed and Mei quarrel, Al lets him Winry out of his armor and Marcoh and Yoki catch up to Mei. Comically, the boys don't remember Yoki at all.
Scene 10 (pg 36 - 39): Jelso and Zanpano find Scar in one of the buildings. Cornering him, they transform into their chimera state.
Chapter 72: A Chain of Negativity, A Pebble of Goodness
Scene 1 (pg 1 - 6): Flashback. Trembling and terrified of the shadows, Hawkeye walks back to her apartment. For a moment, she mistakes the eyes in the shadows to be Pride, relieved to see it is only Black Hayate. As she tries to calm down, she gets a call from Mustang, asking if she'd like to take some flowers off his hands. He asks her what's wrong, but she isn't able to tell him. However, she is thankful to hear from Mustang. "How does he manage to have such good timing?"
Scene 2 (pg 7 - 10): In an abandoned building, Ed, Al, Winry, Mei, Marcoh, and Yoki sit down to talk. Marcoh asks if the boys found out about the philosopher's stone. Ed replies that they have. From there, they figured some things, including something strange about Amestris and its alchemy. Marcoh then shows them Scar's brother's research notes, saying that they need Scar to translate them. While the rest stay back, Ed and Al leave to go find him.
Scene 3 (pg 10 - 26): Scar battles with Jelso and Zanpano. They keep their distance, knowing how Scar uses his arm and that he has a habit of blowing up the floor to escape, trapping him. The Elric brothers arrive on the scene, and realize that the chimeras happen to be Kimblee's goons, they pretend to not know their identities as an excuse to beat them up. During the fight, Ed realizes just how light his new automail is, happy that he can move so fast now. Unfortunately, his punches are lighter too, so Jelso shoots snot at him. Transmuting the mucus onto Jelso's back, he sticks him to Al's cold armor. Zanpano gets tricked by Ed when he tries to prove that they're from the military and is knocked down. With the chimeras unconscious, the brothers try to get Scar to come with them, only to end up fighting. Realizing that Winry has followed them, they take him down.
Scene 4 (pg 27 - 37): Major miles and some other military men show up. He lets the boys know that everyone at Briggs are on their side and confronts Scar. Winry steps forward to ask him why Scar killed her parents. He simply says she has every right to take revenge on him. Instead, she tends to his wounds, explaining that she would never be able to forgive him, but she must endure reminding him of when he met his old master and his older brother about enduring pain in order to move on (flashback). Ed and Al comfort Winry after she is done.
Scene 5 (pg 37 - 40): Scar asks Miles why he called him his "kinsman", making Miles reveal that he is part Ishvalan. He explains that he is trying to change the military's perception of Ishvalans from the inside. Deeming himself not worthy of God, Scar tells Miles he is glad that there are still people like him, at least.
Scene 6 (pg 40 - 42): Miles contacts HQ, calling for backup. Knowing that Kimbley is on his way, they plan a way to take Scar away before then. Marcoh rushes in, telling him not to do that.
Scene 7 (pg 42 - 44): Kimbley runs to where Scar is. Just as he shows up, the building is blown apart and Edward yells at him for not keeping an eye on Winry. Up above, Scar has captured Winry.
Chapter 73: A Daydream
- Cameo: Father, Greed!Ling
Scene 1 (pg 1 - 4): In the tunnel, Buccaneer and the troops have finally found the door back. They realize it took them more than 24 hours to return, so the exit must be blocked. They try anyway, and find out that it hasn't, the officers above saying that according to the broken watch the major general gave them, 24 hours hasn't passed yet.
Scene 2 (pg 4 - 7): Somewhere on top of the fortress, Buccaneer thanks Major General Armstrong. They notice that they have visitors from Central.
Scene 3 (pg 8 - 15): Everyone makes a plan to let Marcoh, Scar, Mei and Winry escape Kimbley's grasp. Just as the other men are about to kill Jelso and Zanpano, Al insists that they mustn't, and gives them the will to live in order to find a way to revert back to their normal selves.
Scene 4 (pg 15 - 24): Since the weather is worsening, Yoki proves to be of use, suggesting that since this is a mining town, they could take an underground route to get out and back to Briggs. Miles gives Marcoh something that will explain everything to those at Briggs so that they will take them in. Winry then brings up the idea to act as Scar's hostage so that the boys can pretend to stop him. Reluctantly, Ed agrees to the plan. The chimeras are also taken along by Miles. After giving Ed her earrings (to prevent frostbite) she runs up to the roof to begin implementing the plan.
Scene 5 (pg 24 - 30): The plan goes off - Scar looks down on Kimbley from above while Ed continues to yell at him. Kimbley simply tells him to get out of his way and blows up the structure that Scar is standing on. As the forces retreat due to the upcoming snowstorm and Scar gets away, Ed admits to Miles it was no act, pissed at himself for letting Scar take Winry.
Scene 6 (pg 30 - 33): Scar, Yoki, Mei, Marcoh, Winry, and the chimeras are in the underground mine tunnel, on their way to Briggs. Yoki finds a map, explaining how they can get out. Mei is sad about leaving her country without them knowing; Marcoh reassures her that maybe what she's looking for will be in the research notes. They begin to march on.
Scene 7 (pg 34 - 38): At some shelter, Miles is relieved for the storm. Major Miles receives news that Major General Armstrong has been summoned to Central and that a Central commander will most likely replace her, and tells Ed and Al. Al sacrifices himself to warn the others in the mine tunnels not to return to Briggs.
Scene 8 (pg 38 - 42): The storm is horrible. As Al tries to move through it, he suddenly gets a vision of his body at the gate. Getting back to his senses, he forces himself to continue to move.
Scene 9 (pg 42 - 44): In Father's lair, Father names the Elric Brothers and Hoenheim as sacrifices, as well as suggesting Izumi as another. He needs one more.
